Casely power bank recall after a death: check and store your batteries

How do I know if my power bank has been recalled?

Check the brand and model number of each power bank against current recall notices. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reissued a recall of about 429,200 Casely Power Pods (model E33A) in April 2026. CPSC urges owners to stop using them and contact Casely for a replacement.

FOX 13, reporting on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), says the agency reissued its recall of about 429,200 Casely Power Pods (model E33A) on April 16, 2026.

What happened

The original Casely recall was in April 2025. Coverage says the agency tied one death to a power bank that caught fire while charging a phone. CPSC urges owners to stop using the power bank, contact Casely for a replacement, and not put it in household trash or standard recycling. TechRadar reported a separate Anker recall of about 481,000 power banks in September 2025, covering models A1647, A1652, A1257, A1681 and A1689.

What it means for your home

The Anker recall notice says the lithium-ion battery can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. Check power banks in a go-bag or drawer before you need them.

What to do this week

  • Look up the brand and model number on every power bank in your kit.
  • Stop using any recalled or swollen power bank, and contact the maker about a replacement or refund.
  • For the Casely units, CPSC says not to put them in household trash or standard recycling.
  • Store spare power banks away from flammable items.
